Mike Roberts

Meteorologist

School: Fontbonne University

Hometown: St. Louis, MO

Year Joined KRCG 13: 1995

Television news coverage of the Iranian Hostage Crisis sparked Mike Roberts' interest in broadcasting at an early age. After graduating from Fontbonne University with a communications degree, he worked at radio stations in Moberly and Columbia, Missouri as a news anchor and reporter, deejay, talk show host, and weathercaster.

Weather quickly rose to the top as Mike's passion. After a brief stint as a weekend weathercaster in Columbia, Mike took the reins of the KRCG 13 weather team from legendary KRCG broadcaster Lee Gordon. Mike enrolled at the University of Missouri - Columbia in June 1995 and later earned a master's degree in atmospheric science.

For nearly 15 years, Mike proudly served as chief meteorologist accurately predicting Mid-Missouri's often-fickle weather with "Mike's Guaranteed Forecast" and tracking severe weather through the region.

Mike enlisted into the Missouri Army National Guard in August 2001, just weeks before the terrorist attacks on America on September 11th. Mike progressed through the ranks as an engineer officer and, in November 2005, he deployed to Iraq to conduct engineer route clearance of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Mike returned to KRCG after a 15-month absence and resumed his weather duties at KRCG. In December 2009, Mike departed KRCG to serve on active duty with the Missouri National Guard. He's served in positions of increasing responsibility and is currently a lieutenant colonel.

In December 2018, Mike rejoined KRCG as a fill-in meteorologist.

Mike's passions include public speaking at local schools and civic organizations and helping local charities. Through the years, Mike has helped local organizations raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to help improve the lives of others.

It's faith, family, and country for Mike. But his love of soccer, Liverpool Football Club, and English Bulldogs rank pretty high.

Mike's four bulldogs have names related to Liverpool - Shankly, Agnes, Paisley, and Beans (The Mighty Red).

Mike and his wife, Kim, have been married for 33 years. They have three adult children - Jessica, Brendan, and Becky - and three grandsons.
