Year Joined KRCG 13: 2017

Elyse joined the KRCG Weather Authority team only a few months after her graduation from Valparaiso University. As the newest member on the team, Elyse will serve as the weekend meteorologist and forecast for the noon shows during the week. Besides filling in during the morning and evening news, Elyse will be out, in the elements, as KRCG’s live meteorologist.

Elyse earned a Bachelors in Science in Meteorology from Valpo, with minors in Math and Theatre. During her time at Valpo, she had the privilege of interning with two of the most well respected broadcast meteorologists in the country: James Spann (WBMA - Birmingham) and Tom Skilling (WGN - Chicago). Elyse was also highly involved within the meteorology program at Valpo. Her senior year, she served as the President of the Northwest Indiana Chapter of the American Meteorological Society/National Weather Association.

Besides studying meteorology in college, Elyse was heavily involved in the Performing Arts. During her four years at Valpo, she participated as a dancer/choreographer for the Dance Ensemble, performed with VUDU Improv Comedy, and was in multiple theatre productions. Elyse is also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, and served at the Beta Lambda chapter’s President from 2016-2017. In 2014, Elyse auditioned for season 11 of So You Think You Can Dance (Dick ClarkProductions) and made it as a city finalist in Atlanta.

Growing up, Elyse cannot remember a time when she was not interested in the weather. Growing up next to a tornado siren, Elyse was always intrigued by the siren, and wondered who knew why they would sound. Then, her mother introduced her to the career of a meteorologist by turning on the local news. Elyse was awed by the fact that a meteorologist could tell you what the weather was going to be because, at the time, it seemed like forecasting the weather was an impossible feat. Now, Elyse is happy to combine both her love of science and public speaking together as an on-air meteorologist for KRCG 13!

Perhaps one of Elyse’s biggest accomplishments thus far has been earned through her career as an Irish Dancer. Elyse trained with the Trinity Academy of Irish Dance for 14 years and has won two gold medals and a bronze medal at The World Championships of Irish Dance. She has also been previously ranked as one of the top 10 best Irish dancers in North America. In addition to her competition success, Elyse has performed on The Conan O’Brien Show (TBS), The Jerry Lewis Telethon (MDA), The Steve Harvey Show (NBCUniversal), and is featured with the Trinity Irish Dancers in the Documentary Irish Chicago.

While not at work, Elyse enjoys exploring the local area. Coming from a big city atmosphere, mid-Missouri is a nice change of pace for her. Elyse is thrilled to be serving as a part of the Weather Authority team, so do not be afraid to reach out to her on social media!
