After a 43-year run in the Capital City, the MSHSAA Cross Country Championships will return to Columbia.

The MSHSAA Board of Directors voted unanimously Wednesday to award the championships to Columbia and the new course being built at the Gans Creek Recreation Area.

Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City hosted the championships for the first time in 1976. The course will host the state meet in 2018 before a five-year agreement sends the championships to Columbia beginning in 2019.

Columbia last hosted the state cross country championships in 1975.

Also on Wednesday, MSHSAA voted to keep the state track and field championships at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City.

The state wrestling championships will continue to be held at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
