Hundreds of volunteers set to head out into Jefferson City
NEW BLOOMFIELD —
Mission JC, a community-wide volunteering effort, was scheduled to take place Sunday, April 29 in Jefferson City.
Mission JC organizer Melissa Hatfield stopped by KRCG 13 Live at Sunrise Friday to talk about the program. "Mission JC is a morning of community service that involves nine different churches," she said. "Doors will open at the Capitol Mall at 8:00 a.m., and then we'll head out into the community at about 9:00 a.m. and work until noon."
Hatfield said there are about 50 different volunteer activities from which participants can choose. "There are activities that involve working outside, others that are inside, and then others still that allow you to sit," she said. "We have something for everyone, people of all activity levels."
Hatfield said this is the sixth year of Mission JC. The group is expecting a record turnout. "Last year, we had about 600 volunteers," she said. "This year, we already have 650 people signed up online and we expect even more the day of."
You can sign up for Mission JC here. Hatfield said "walk-in" volunteers are also welcome. Church membership is not required to participate.
