Sat, 06 Sep 2014 21:35:05 GMT — Nearly 200 people pretended to be prisoners and break out of the old Jefferson City State Penitentiary on Saturday morning.
They each paid $40 to be part of the 3rd Annual Prison Break Race.
Runners started in a prison dungeon cell.
They escaped by running through the streets of Jefferson City and tossing their prison uniform shirts on the ground.
J.C. Convention and Visitors Bureau spokeswoman Katherine Reed said, â??Itâ??s getting to see the prison. Itâ??s getting to see what itâ??s like to escape from prison. Itâ??s just the thrill of the race.â??
Organizers hope this yearâ??s prison break race promotes the old penitentiary tours that run through November.
