Study: Young employees more likely to waste time on phones
JEFFERSON CITY —
The more young people in an office, the more likely the office is to lose productivity according to a study by OfficeTeam.
The average employee spends 56 minutes per work day on their mobile devices, adding up to nearly five hours a week.
OfficeTeam found employees ages 18 to 34 spend on average 70 minutes of their workdays on mobile devices, adding up to ten hours a work week.
The survey also found personal email and social media take up a majority of the lost time on mobile devices. Mobile gaming and shopping also contributed to the list of non-work activities on mobile devices.
Employees surveyed spent 43 percent or 39 minutes more on mobile devices than their managers thought.
Mobile phones were not the only non-work activity contributing to lost productivity. OfficeTeam found employees use three and a half hours at work each week for personal tasks, such as errands.
