Passenger receives serious injuries in motorcycle crash, substance abuse suspected

A woman was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday night. (KRCG 13)

A crash involving a motorcycle left two injured Saturday night, inlcuding one with serious-to-life-threatening injuries.

A crash report stated Aaron Monroe, of Columbia, was driving a motorcycle with a passenger northbound on Paris Road at the intersection of Brown Station Road. Marilynn Young, also of Columbia, was driving eastbound on Brown Station Road at the same intersection.

Police stated Young had a green light and Monroe had a red light when Monroe drove through the intersection and crashed into the vehicle.

Both Monroe and his 39-year-old female passenger were thrown off the motorcycle. He received moderate injuries, while police said the woman had 'serious/life-threatening' injuries. She was taken to a local hospital after the crash.

Young was not injured in the crash.

Police stated Monroe was suspected to have used alcohol and/or drugs. An investigation was ongoing.
