FULTON — A 37-year-old woman was behind bars at the Callaway County Jail Friday morning without a bond after she was involved in a fatal shooting.
Kalesha Peterson of Fulton told police she and her boyfriend David Dalton were watching a movie Thursday evening and drinking alcoholic beverages. She told police Dalton had suggested they act out a scene from a movie that involved a firearm.
Peterson then retrieved a .38 caliber revolver from a bedroom. She said she accidentally shot Dalton and immediately called for medical help.
When police arrived to the residence in the 400 block of 1st Street in Fulton, they found Dalton in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to his head. Emergency personnel tried to treat the 36-year-old man but declared him dead a short time later.
Peterson admitted she had been drinking whiskey and was intoxicated. She also told investigators she had been taking several medications, some which are known to increase impairment when used with alcohol, a press release stated.
She was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
The Callaway County Prosecutor's Office stated no formal charges had been filed against Peterson.
