A winter storm is aiming to impact Mid-Missouri Friday and into the weekend.
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect through late Saturday night.
The storm will begin as rain on Friday morning and transition to all snow by late Friday night. Through that transition process we’ll also see sleet mixing in at times. Light sleet accumulation will also be possible.
Sedalia to the Lake Area and Rolla can expect this to start Friday between 6am-Noon. Columbia to Jefferson City will start between Noon to 3pm. Mexico to Montgomery City between 3-6pm.
There is still a lot of dry air for this storm to overcome before rain and/or snow reaches the ground. Once the air becomes saturated, we'll see flakes/rain reaching the ground, the ground temperatures are currently in the mid 30s so some of the snow is going to melt. Same goes for the roads. Overpasses/bridges and grassy areas will be the first to become stick.
The heaviest snow with this storm will fall overnight Friday into Saturday morning. With several inches expected by Saturday morning.
Although the heaviest snow will be wrapping up by 8am we’ll continue to see light snow through Saturday night.
Likely snowfall totals for the area are between 4-6 inches but some areas could see up to 8.
