Two detained for bomb threat to Dixon schools
NEW BLOOMFIELD —
Two juveniles were detained Monday after it was determined they were responsible for a bomb threat resulting in the evacuation of all of the schools in the Dixon School District.
According to Pulaski County Sheriff Jimmy Bench, the superintendent of schools received a bomb threat by email Monday morning. He then instituted the district's protocols and called law enforcement.
According to Bench, since no school was specified in the threat, all students and staff were evacuated from all schools until the situation was resolved. The Sheriff's Department called in help from Fort Leonard Wood and after sweeping school property, buses, and private cars with explosive-sniffing dogs it was determined that no explosive device was present.
Two juveniles were subsequently taken into custody for making the threat. Bench said one of the suspects is from the area but was no longer in the area. No other details are available as the investigation is ongoing.
