COLUMBIA, Mo. — UPDATE:
Three Columbia College students were burned during an explosion in a science laboratory on Thursday afternoon.
One of the students had moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The 2 other students had minor injuries and were treated on campus.
The students were working with nitric acid when some chemicals exploded.
The explosion damaged a small section of the laboratory.
Columbia College Spokesman Sam Fleury said, "The student with moderate injuries had burns on their arm and some on their face. They were wearing safety goggles so they didn't have any eye damage."
School officials evacuated their science laboratory and did not evacuate the entire Brouder Science Center.

Columbia emergency responders are currently at the scene of a small chemical explosion at Columbia College.
It happened in a nursing class in the Brouder Science Center at 1:26 p.m.
According Sam Fluery, spokesperson for Columbia College, three people were affected by a small explosion involving nitric acid and received minor burns.
They are being treated in the college's nursing station at this time.
The building was not evacuated.
