Task Force One readies to aid survivors

Missouri Task Force One, an urban search and rescue unit based in Boone County, arrived in North Carolina Wednesday and began staging to help victims of the impending Hurricane Florence.

Missouri Task Force One, based in Columbia, arrived in Leland, N.C., Thursday, an area expected to be near landfall of hurricane Florence. Its primary mission is to rescue victims of the powerful hurricane that is expected to dump 20 to 30 inches of rain in some areas.

Leland is just west of Wilmington in an area expected to be just a few miles away from landfall. According to the team's Facebook page, members are currently checking equipment, reviewing safety issues, and learning about the area. They are studying historical flooding maps, briefing on storm updates, and reviewing hazards.

The area is expected to see major flooding.

According to the team, everyone arrived safe and members are ready to help the citizens of North Carolina.
