A man suspected of fatally shooting one Clinton police officer and wounding two others refused to let officers tend to the dying officer for hours.

The Kansas City Star reported that dispatcher recordings captured the conversation with Officer Christopher Ryan Morton soon after he was wounded Tuesday night:

Officer Morton: "Officer with gunshot wound."

Dispatch Audio: "Where you at?"

Officer Morton: "Back room---I'm stuck."

Dispatch Audio: "Can you see the suspect?"

Officer Morton: "19,18,14 all hit with assault rifle fire."

By the time officers got to Morton hours later, he was dead, along with the suspect.

Authorities said information provided by Officer Morton likely kept other officers safe by letting them know what was happening inside the house.
