The City of Chamois confirmed two children died in an overnight house fire.

First responders arrived at the corner of West Fourth and Locust streets at 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters from Chamois, Morrison, Linn and Hermann continued working the house fire Monday morning; the Red Cross also provided assistance. Officials had said the house was a family home with four children.

"“It’s a very emotional task and our hearts, first and foremost, go out to the family,” Sheriff Mike Bonham said. “But we’re also looking at our first-responders, especially our firefighters and dispatchers. It’s a very difficult situation to be dealing with deaths like this that include children.”

As of 7 a.m. Monday, the home was still partially burning.

The State Fire Marshal's Office was investigating the fire.

Bonham said anyone wanting to make monetary donations to the Musgrave family can contact Heritage Bank of Chamois at (573) 763-5958.
