Lake Ozark police arrested a man Friday morning after responding to a call of an unconscious man at a campground.

John Powell, 39, of Mexico, Missouri, was charged three counts of first-degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action following his arrest.

Officers stated they found a man unconscious near the bathhouse of Lake Ozark RV Park and Campground and following CPR, the man was taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said in a release that Powell and the man were staying at the campground and began getting into an altercation. Powell told officers he assaulted the man.

"When they arrived there was a male subject that was laying on the ground that was bleeding profusely unconcious, and a male subject standing over him. When officers arrived they pretty much asked the subject that was standing there what had happened and he pretty much admitted at that point that he had assaulted the subject, Lake Ozark Police Chief Gary Launderville said.

According to the release, "the man was physically beaten stabbed several times in the head, arms and hands and was dragged behind a vehicle through the campground for several hundred feet."

An investigation was ongoing, but he was booked into the Miller County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
