Package safety crucial during holiday season
JEFFERSON CITY —
The Jefferson City Post Office said it has seen over 36,000 packages come through the office this holiday season.
With an increase in packages, the postmaster said it is important to be aware of package safety.
In order to ensure safety, the post office recommends putting the mail on hold while you are away on any vacation using the website. They also recommend setting up a secure drop off location such as the back door rather than the front door.
Jefferson City Postmaster Krystal Drone said there a few necessary steps to take if you feel a package was stolen.
"First come in and talk to me. We probably need to file a police report, we'll do some research. If you have the tracking number we can actually track the package and see exactly where it was delivered, right up to the door step," Drone said.
Drone also recommended those with outdoor security cameras keep them on and monitor them when a package is expected to be delivered.
The Jefferson City Post Office said it had not fielded any reports of stolen packages this year.
