Boone County Office of Emergency Management wants residents to create a Smart911 Safety Profile.

Smart911 is a free service to help improve communication in an emergency situation. A user would create a safety profile including information such as physical disabilities, medical conditions and household information. The service previously had a growing popularity in Boone County.

Over 70 percent of calls made from 911 come from cell phones, according to Smart911. This means that dispatchers get very little information from a call. Smart911 profiles are accessible to dispatchers from a cell phone number which can help provide pertinent emergency information.

Boone County OEM is reminding residents to use the service.

"Taking 10 minutes to create your Smart911 Safety Profile has the potential to save your life later," the agency wrote in a tweet.
