Damaging winds Monday night that struck a few communities in Randolph County were the result of a tornado.

The Randolph County sheriff, who was briefed by a National Weather Service surveyer Tuesday, said the EF1 tornado produced winds of 100 mph.

An official report has not yet been filed by the National Weather Service.

The tornado destroyed some houses in Renick and Higbee, and moved on to Monroe County.
