Authorities: Four dead in I-70 crash east of Columbia

Multiple agencies responded to an injury accident Wednesday morning in east Columbia. (Boone County Fire Protection District).

The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated four people died Wednesday in a multi-vehicle crash east of Columbia.

The Boone County Fire Protection District stated all lanes of traffic on Interstate 70 were reopened after three were closed for multiple hours earlier in the afternoon.


Westbound Interstate 70 between Lake of the Woods and Route Z was shut down Wednesday afternoon for more than three hours due to the fatal crash, and one eastbound lane was closed.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated tractor trailers were involved, along with a tanker truck; that vehicle was not breached, according to the highway patrol. The Boone County Fire Protection District stated the accident involved a semi carrying vehicles.

MSHP also said a tanker truck was involved in the crash but there was no breach. The Highway Patrol said families were still being notified.
