Man suffers gunshot in botched robbery
Two Columbia men were arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery Saturday night, one of whom suffered a gunshot wound in the attempt.
According to Columbia police, officers responded at about 9:00 Saturday night to a residence in the 1400 block of Bass Avenue for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. The 25-year-old victim told police that he had received a message on his phone that the buyer of an item he was selling online had arrived to purchase it.
When the victim opened his door to locate the assumed buyer, he was attacked from behind by two men. During the ensuing struggle, the victim said he heard a "pop" sound before the suspects ran off.
A short time later, officers got word of a man who had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Officers talked to the gunshot victim, Trevion Travis, 22, and Devon Bush, 22, both of Columbia, and determined that they were suspects in the robbery on Bass Avenue.
Travis and Bush are both in custody in the Boone County Jail on $250,000 bond for suspicion of second-degree robbery.
