PARIS, Mo. — UPDATE:
A Madison man is recovering from 2 gunshot wounds and a deputy has injuries after a chase through Monroe County.
Officers shot Kevin Marshall, 39, at a Paris grocery store. The pursuit began just after midnight on Friday when Marshall allegedly used a hatchet to try and break into a vehicle.
Missouri Highway Patrol investigators said Marshall led deputies on a chase from Madison to Paris. Monroe County deputies saw Marshall walking southbound on Highway 15 carrying a hatchet and a flashlight secured to a metal bat. Deputies said Marshall threatened them before breaking into a nearby grocery store. Officers shot Marshall at least twice during a confrontation inside the business. Three doors at the grocery store were damaged during the shooting. Hickman’s IGA Manager Roger Herron arrived on the scene after the shooting and gave authorities surveillance video showing Marshall entering the store and eventually taken into custody.
Herron said, “It’s actually kind of scary. It’s not the type of thing that you usually see in a little town like this very often. It kind of catches you off guard.”
Missouri Highway Patrol investigators said Marshall is responsible for some minor injuries to a Monroe County Deputy. Marshall is at a Columbia hospital with serious injuries.
The incident is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.
