A 46-year-old man was pronounced dead at the Missouri Probation and Parole Office Monday morning as the result of a vehicle fire.

The Rolla Police Department stated on its Facebook page the man had suffered a medical emergency while seated inside his running vehicle, parked in the parking lot at the probation office.

Police stated the victim fell unconscious, causing the vehicle's engine to accelerate to a high rate of RPMs. The vehicle then overheated and eventually caught fire.

The victim was removed from the vehicle by fire personnel and taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The victim later died as the result of his injuries.

There were no indications of foul play, and the incident remained under investigation by the Rolla Police Department’s Division of Criminal Investigations Unit, the Rolla City Fire Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office.
