Man critically injured after fire

The Columbia Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire early Friday morning.

According to a statement from the fire department, crews arrived on scene at 18 Forest Avenue and found smoke coming from a single story building made up of three different apartments.

Firefighters located a fire in one of the apartments and found a man inside the involved unit. He was removed from the structure and taken University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Three people located inside one of the other apartments escaped without injuries. The fire was extinguished in approximately five minutes, according to the Columbia Fire Department. The estimated damage from the fire is $5,000.

The Columbia Fire Department Marshals Division was conducting an investigation into the incident Friday.
