A northeast Missouri mother is now facing seven charges following the death of her son early this month.

Jace Hamblen, 4, of Macon, died after he was found unresponsive September 3, 2017, at his home in the 700 block of West Bourke Street in Macon.

CPR was in progress when emergency personnel arrived.

He was taken to Samaritan Hospital in Macon and then flown to a Columbia Hospital where he later died.

The little boy’s mother, Ashley Nicole Hamblen, 31, of Macon was charged Monday with felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

She also faces five misdemeanor charges of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and one felony count of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Following her arrest, Hamblen was being held in the Macon County Jail on $100,000 cash-only bond, but she was released Tuesday on her own recognizance per a judge's order.

Macon County Coroner told KTVO Tuesday night that the cause of death for Jace Hamblen is still under investigation, and no cause has been determined at this time.

He said there are several circumstances to take into account, plus he is awaiting toxicology results, which usually take weeks to receive.

A memorial service for Hamblen was held this past Sunday.
