Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe was among Missouri's local leaders to show support for Proposition D at a Thursday morning press conference.

Kehoe, along with the "Missouri Local Leaders Partnership," shared his views on how Proposition D would provide funding for safer roads and streets.

SaferMO Communications Director, Scott Charton, said Proposition D will fund Missouri state law enforcement and maintenance for highways, bridges, roads and streets.

Melissa Randol, Executive Director of Missouri School Boards Association, also spoke in support of the proposition.

Also in attendance were Dick Burke, Executive Director of Missouri Association of Counties, and Richard Sheets, Deputy Director of Missouri Municipal League.

Kehoe said the gas tax is sensible, "We think it's a reasonable approach to implementing it over four years at 2 1/2 cents a year, until we get to the 10 cent total. While that's going on it's about $1.25 for the average Missouri family a month, the 2 1/2 cents. Then once it's fully implemented, about $5 per family. When you look at the wear and tear you're going to have on your car with roads that aren't quite smooth, it seems to be a good investment along with obviously the number one return is the safety of your family."
