Initial court date scheduled for caregiver charged in connection with Darnell Gray death
JEFFERSON CITY —
The woman charged with a felony in connection with the death of a 4-year-old boy in Jefferson City has had her first court date set.
Quatavia Givens, 26, will be arraigned in Cole County Circuit Court Thursday at 9:30 a.m. An attorney for Givens is not listed in online court records.
A probable cause document stated Darnell Gray suffered multiple injuries "caused by blunt force trauma and sharp force trauma" prior to his death.
According to the document, Givens reported the child was missing. She said either the child was abducted from a residence in the 1100 block of Buena Vista Street, or he had run away from the residence. She said she had just driven to her mother's residence across town and informed her the boy was missing.
Givens admitted she knew the location of the boy's body, which was consistent with where it was found in the 2100 block of Louis Circle.
She told investigators she had inflicted injury by stating "I may have hit him wrong," the probable cause document stated. She told investigators during the investigation she was traveling to Florida to get out of the area. Online court records stated Givens does not have a bond.
Jefferson City police have said they are "not ruling anyone out" in the death of 4-year-old Darnell Gray. Jefferson City police said they do not yet have the results from the autopsy.
