JEFFERSON CITY — An Ashland police officer honored for his bravery continued to fight for his life Friday. George Roberson escaped death in December 2019 and now fights a different battle.
This is National Police Week and Roberson was recognized by Missouri lawmakers for his heroism and service to his community. Now, this hero asked for your help.
Roberson escaped death when a wanted suspect opened fire into his Ashland police cruiser. Now, the 30-year-old father is in need of a kidney transplant. Roberson continues to have dialysis treatments ten hours a day.
“Your freedom is very limited as to what you can do," Roberson said. "If I decided to go for a night somewhere, I would have to take my machine with me and do a dialysis treatment.”
Roberson put his name on a kidney transplant list in 2017. Roberson needs a kidney from a living or deceased donor. Despite his illness, Roberson finds time to be a loving father and works long shifts as a police officer.
“It’s a big change in your life," Roberson said. "It’s very time-consuming. There are a lot of things that I can’t do with my family that I would like to.”
