Holts Summit police chief Kyle McIntyre is recovering from serious injuries he sustained when a deer struck him as he rode his motorcyle in Callaway County Sunday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 51-year-old Kyle McIntyre was riding his motorcycle on Highway 94, just west of County Road 475 in Callaway County at 5:20 Sunday evening when the accident occurred. Assistant Police Chief Shannon Jeffries said a deer came from the side of the road and struck McIntyre. McIntyre suffered what were described as "serious" injuries. Jeffries said the injuries included broken bones.

McIntyre was taken to University Hospital for treatment. He was released and is now at home, according to Jeffries, where "he is doing a lot better now that he's home." Jeffries says the chief is in "good spirits."

Jeffries said it is too early to say when McIntyre might return to work.
