Officials with Columbia Public Schools say they are looking into the possibility of adding a weapons detection system at the district's three high schools.

CPS administrators watched as students entered through the Evolv system at Hickman High School Tuesday morning.

"The Students Demand Action here at Hickman High School brought some of their concerns to us," said John White, CPS Director of Safety & Security. "And actually brought this system up to us."

The touchless system does not require stopping or pat downs and is used at several professional sporting venues across the country.

CPS officials say they have not committed to any system and will continue exploring other options. They say there is no timetable to implement any system at the moment.

"There's a continued exploration process," said Jeanne Snodgrass, CPS Board of Directors Vice President. "I know our head of security is continuing to look into this and other systems. The administration is looking at what different options are. Then as a board we'll have to look at that, evaluate that, get community feedback and student feedback."
