Greene County Sheriff's Deputy to be laid to rest

Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Aaron Roberts died when his patrol car washed away in rushing water (Greene County Sheriff's Department).

Flags at the Cole County Sheriff's Department were flown at half-staff Thursday morning in honor of Greene County Deputy Aaron Roberts.

While on duty Friday night, Deputy Roberts let dispatch know his car had washed off the road into rushing water in Pomme De Terre River in Fair Grove. Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott said Roberts' body was found inside the car a short time later

The 35-year-old deputy had worked for the Greene County Sheriff's office for approximately one year. He is survived by a wife and daughter.

Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Praise Assembly in Springfield.

Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler said his department will attend Thursday afternoon's funeral, "Our hearts and prayers are with Deputy Roberts family, Sheriff Arnott and the men and women of the Greene County Sheriffs Department," Sheriff said.

Governor Mike Parson ordered flags at all government buildings to be flown at half-staff Thursday.
