Search continues for Moberly robbery suspects

Deputies from multiple law enforcement agencies continued their search of an area near Route 22 and Highway 63 into the evening hours Friday.

Law enforcement will continue their overnight search of a cornfield on the Boone/Randolph County line where they believe at least one suspect in a Moberly bank robbery may be hiding out.

Police have one suspect in custody, but they have not yet apprehended any additional suspects.

Five law enforcement agencies searched the area near Highway 63 and Route 22 throughout Friday, and used police dogs and helicopters in their search. Agencies involved included the Moberly Police Department, the Boone County Sheriff's Department, the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, and Missouri State Highway Patrol Troops B and F.

Although deputies were unable to apprehend any suspects Friday evening, Sergeant Jason Mattingly of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said their agency plans to have officers in the area throughout the night to watch for movement.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Bank Midwest in Moberly was robbed Friday morning. It was believed at the time that a single suspect got away from the scene in a stolen car, which was later found along Route F in northern Boone County. Law enforcement believes two more suspects were involved in the robbery, and at least one of them was last reported being seen in a cornfield near Highway 63 and Route 22.

Missouri State Highway Patrol said the stifling heat made their search difficult, and that multiple officers had to be removed due to heat exhaustion.

Highway Patrol used at least one helicopter in the search, but it had been called off by 8 p.m. Friday. It is not clear if the search will continue into Saturday.

Sergeant Paul Reinch of Highway Patrol said no one was hurt in the bank robbery.

Law enforcement is advising anyone who lives near the search perimeter to keep an eye on their buildings and lock their doors.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call the Moberly Police Department at (660) 263-0346.
