A mid-Missouri family health system is now part of the MU Health Care system.

In announcement Thursday, MU Health Care said Fulton Family Health Associates had joined its system. The name of the practice is also changed to Family Medicine - Fulton Family Health.

“Fulton Family Health Associates will help MU Health Care build on central Missouri’s excellent reputation as a destination for primary care,” said Jonathan Curtright, MU Health Care chief executive officer, in a release. “This collaboration creates new opportunities to improve and promote high quality care for patients in central Missouri.”

The Fulton group practice is comprised of three board-certified family medicine physicians, one board-certified physician assistant, and 13 other health professional and support staff.

MU Health Care’s Family Medicine – Callaway Physicians has been providing primary care to the citizens of Callaway County for more than 40 years. Fulton Family Health Associates has provided primary care in central Missouri for 21 years. Both clinics will continue to serve patients in their present locations, a press release stated.

“Fulton Family Health Associates and MU Health Care share a common goal of advancing patient care, medical education and medical research,” said Robert Pierce, M.D., MSPH, FAAFP, DABPM-CI, founder of Fulton Family Health Associates. “Our affiliation allows us to integrate health care resources to better serve our patients, while preserving the historic strengths of Fulton’s community physicians.”

Under the new arrangement, patients of the newly named Family Medicine – Fulton Family Health can choose the health provider or hospital where they would like to receive inpatient and outpatient care. They also have more health options because their provider now has privileges at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, University Hospital, MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and other MU Health Care inpatient and outpatient facilities.
