Former MU student sentenced to 20 years for rape

A former student at the University of Missouri accused of raping a female student in January 2016 learned he will spend 20 years behind bars Thursday.

At the time of the incident, MU Police Major Brian Weimer said a female student reported a male suspect broke in to her room and raped her around 3 a.m. on Monday, January 18. That suspect was identified as Austin Joseph Campbell.

He was initially charged with first-degree rape and first-degree burglary.

Campbell was a member of Mizzou's ROTC program.
