Neighbors on Wednesday said they're glad a suspect is in custody in connection with this week's homicide but they're still shaken.

Deputies arrested Damontrion Doxley early Wednesday, a few hours after Javonte Roy, 27, was gunned down in the 5500 block of Pinehurst Lane. Doxley faces one count each of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Roy's death. Detective Tom O'Sullivan said eyewitness testimony was instrumental in the investigation. He said it's always crucial that people with information come forward.

"It's all about treating people with courtesy, with respect," he said.

Several neighbors praised the way deputies handled the shooting and the aftermath. Joe Rund, who lives a few doors down from the crime scene, said he's always had good interactions with deputies.

"I think that they did an excellent job of responding very quickly as well as really just integrating themselves into the community and getting the facts straight," he said.

Rund said shots have been fired in the neighborhood before. He said Tuesday's events weren't surprising, but they were alarming. Another neighbor who did not want to go on camera said they plan to move out of the neighborhood.

O'Sullivan said the investigation is ongoing. He said anyone with information can leave an anonymous tip at (573) 875-TIPS.
