Deputies investigating home invasion involving armed suspect

The incident happened in the 5900 block of Teresa Drive (FILE)

A home invasion Monday morning in Boone County is under investigation.

Deputies said it happened in the 5900 block of Teresa Drive located in the Gregory Heights subdivision north of Columbia.

According to officials, a 51-year-old man said he was in his living room around 1 a.m. when he heard his back door forced open. The victim told investigators he was confronted by a man holding a handgun. A scuffle ensued and the suspect fired one shot which did not strike anyone. The suspect then fled the residence on foot heading west on Teresa Drive, according to a release.

Deputies said the male victim sustained a cut to the head and was treated by medics at the scene. The victim's wife and 18-year-old son were also at the home but was not injured.

Investigators said the suspect was described as a male, unknown race, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a dark-colored hoodie.
