UPDATE: One person dies in early morning Boone County crash

One person was killed in a head-on collision on Route B, and another driver taken to hospital with serious injuries (Caileigh Peterson/KRCG 13)

Boone County fire officials confirmed one person died after a head-on crash on Route B Monday.

Officials said the driver of the other car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District, there were three separate crashes.

A fatal head-on collision occurred on Route B and Academy Road just before 6 a.m.

A separate wreck took place on Route HH at around 6:08 a.m. with no injuries.

While responding to the wreck on Route HH, a volunteer firefighter crashed with a Boone County deputy crashed on Route B and Flamingo Drive. The deputy was headed to an emergeny repsonse on southbound Route B, north of Columbia.

The deputy was not complaining of injuries, but was transported to the hospital per department policy. The firefighter was uninjured and was not transported.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol took over the investigation of the fatal crash to determine what happened. Blomenkamp said the deceased was a male in his early 30s.
