Columbia vehicle fire sends one to the hospital with significant burns

COLUMBIA — One person was sent to the hospital after being burned during a vehicle fire in north Columbia late Thursday afternoon. The fire happened at Bear Creek Trail off Creasy Springs at around 4:00 p.m.

Columbia Assistant Fire Chief Brad Fraizer said fire crews found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters found one victim outside of the vehicle with significant burns.

That victim was taken to University Hospital but their condition was unknown. No one else was injured.

Investigators don't know the fire started.

Columbia Police Department Public Information Officer Bryana Larimer said officers were dispatched to the scene, but it was too early to know if foul play or any crime was committed.
