A female victim had received a gunshot wound to her foot Wednesday morning following a domestic disturbance.

The Columbia Police Department stated the physical disturbance between a man and woman who were in an intimate relationship took place in the 1500 block of Fir Place just before 1:15 a.m.

The 30-year-old victim had fled from the residence and contacted police around 1:15 a.m. from the Phillips 66 gas station at 1412 Rangeline Street.

An official said a patrol officer made contact with the suspect inside the residence.

"The suspect had agreed to turn themself in," Bryana Larimar with the Columbia Police Department said. "That suspect did not follow through. When officers tried to make contact thereafter, they were unsuccessful. The Crisis Division Team of SWAT was then activated."

CNT and SWAT continued attempts to make contact with the male subject outside of the residence. When attempts were unsuccessful, the residence was breached and canvassed. Officers then determined the male was not inside the residence, according to a press release. The scene was eventually cleared.

Larimar said the suspect does not pose as a threat to harm others despite leaving the residence.

The female victim was taken to a hospital for her injury, which were believed to not be serious.

The investigation was ongoing.
