On Sunset Lane, the original recycling pick up is set for Tuesdays.

This week, customers watched their recyclables set on the curb until the City of Columbia came to dispose of it on Thursday afternoon.

Kathleen Angsten lives along Sunset Lane and she said they're not allowed to set out recyclables until 4 p.m. on Monday. She said most recycling on the block has set out for three days.

"We try to maintain our homes in this neighborhood. It looks terrible, you know all these blue bags and boxes of papers and stuff out on the street," she said.

Angsten said this is the first time she has experienced this issue, but it upsets her that she is paying for a service that is not being taken care of.

"It's really kind of frustrating," she said.

KRCG 13 spoke to one neighbor off camera who said they gave the city a call. They said the city was aware of the issue and that residents could expect pick up on Thursday or Friday. They also said that the person from the city said there is usually only one team out on Tuesday.

According to the city, it is experiencing a shortage in staff. There are five two-person trash collecting teams although 13 teams are needed each Tuesday.

The collecting team came to Sunset Lane to collect recyclables just after 1 p.m. on Thursday.
