Jefferson City police said 26-year-old Quatavia Givens has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree child abuse resulting in the death of 4-year-old Darnell Gray.

Givens had previously been identified as the caregiver who originally reported Gray missing.

Lt. David Williams said Tuesday Gray did not die on "his own accord," and said the Federal Bureau of Investigation evidence team was assisting the Jefferson City Police Department in its investigation.

The body was found by a law enforcement search team some time before 12 p.m. Tuesday.

Williams said the medical examiner was called in. At the time of the news conference Tuesday afternoon, Williams said it was too early to determine how Darnell Gray died.

Multiple agencies had been searching since Darnell Gray disappeared from a home in the 1100 block of Buena Vista Street sometime between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday.

A press release stated there are simultaneous investigations being conducted regarding the reason Darnell Gray went missing.

Anyone with information regarding his disappearance was asked to contact the Jefferson City Police Department at (573) 634-6391.
