The Callaway County Sheriff's Department has a new canine officer.

According to a press release, Iro is a full-service, state and national certified working police dog. Sheriff Clay Chism says while the dog is a member of the Sheriff's Department, he will be available to any law enforcement agency in Callaway County.

Chism said the drug problem continues to plague law enforcement, since it leads to other crimes as well, such as burglary and stealing. He said most theft-related complaints are committed by people who need money to buy drugs.

By having Iro on the team, he says these other encompassing crimes can be dealt with more effectively.
