An elementary school principal accused of a felony has been scheduled to appear in court at the end of the month.

Mark Burlison, 33, was charged with felony leaving the scene of an injury accident and a misdemeanor charge of careless and imprudent driving.

Burlison, who is the principal at Blue Ridge Elementary School, had his arraignment scheduled for Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. in the Cooper County Courthouse.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Burlison left the scene of an accident in which he is suspected of running into the rear of another driver, causing her to crash her car into a guardrail and become turned around in traffic.

The patrol's crash report stated the driver of the pickup that caused the wreck left the scene on the I-70 bridge over the Missouri River. That person was later identified as Burlison, and he was arrested and taken to the Cooper County Jail, where he bonded out.

The Columbia Public School District said Burlison was still employed as a principal.
