Ameren to make upgrades in Columbia, Jefferson City

Ameren will replace aging pipes with polyethylene pipe in Columbia and Jefferson City over the next several months, but customers' bills should not be affected.

Ameren Missouri announced that it will perform millions of dollars worth of upgrades to its distribution system in the Columbia and Jefferson City areas.

According to an Ameren spokesperson, the improvements will consist primarily of replacing aging pipes with polyethylene pipe and upgrading gas mains with larger mains to meet the demands of growing communities.

The improvements are expected to cost $13 million, but no immediate impact on customer bills is expected at this time, according to the spokesperson.
