A barn in Boone County was completely destroyed after a fire Wednesday night.

Assistant Fire Chief, Gale Blomenkamp said 30 firefighters responded to the fully engulfed 30 x 60 pole barn in the 6700 block of Wagon Trail Road around 11:30 p.m.

"As the barn collapsed, the tin made it difficult to access all the hot spots plus the cold temperatures made it difficult as well," said Blomenkamp.

Neighbors called 911 and the owner woke up hearing the horse kicking the tin. The owner was able to let the horse out before firefighters arrived.

Blomenkamp said no one was injured but 30 chickens and roosters died in the fire. They estimate $50,000 in damages.

The owner's home was not damaged and they were not displaced.
