2 dead after St. Louis police chase ends with crash
ST. LOUIS (AP) —
Authorities say two suspects are dead and another is critically injured after a St. Louis area police pursuit ended in a crash.
KSDK-TV reported that St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden said gunfire was exchanged Wednesday night during the chase. But police believe the crash is what killed the two suspects.
It started in north St. Louis as officers in an unmarked vehicle were investigating stolen vehicles. Hayden said the officers tried to pull over a car that later was found to have drugs inside, but the driver sped off.
At an intersection, one suspect fired at officers, who fired back. Hayden said it ended in St. Louis County after the car hit a pickup truck, whose driver also was hurt. The surviving suspect had been shot in the leg.
