Rock Bridge advances to state title game

O'FALLON -- For the first time in school history, the Rock Bridge Bruins will play for a state baseball championship.

Logan Twehous tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Bruins to a 2-0 win over Blue Springs South in the state semifinals. Twehous needed only 82 pitches to toss the complete game. He struck out seven and walked two.

The Bruins got on the board in the top of the fourth when Matt Widhalm scored on a squeeze bunt by Michael Buxton. Rock Bridge added another run in the fifth on an infield single by Kyle Teter, which brought in Conner Brumfield.

Rock Bridge (23-12) will play defending state champion Francis Howell (29-10) in the Class 5 title game at 1:00 on Friday. Francis Howell beat Vianney 3-1 in Thursday's other semifinal game.
