For the first time, the Capital City will send two soccer teams to the state Final Four.
The Jefferson City Lady Jays advanced to their first Final Four with a 4-0 win over Nixa in a Class 3 quarterfinal on Saturday. Sarah Luebbert scored the lone goal in the first half. Alyssa Shouse, Megan Martens and Natalie Vance tallied goals in the second half for Jefferson City.
Helias advanced to its third straight Class 2 Final Four with a 5-0 win at Carl Junction. Becky Roberts recorded a hat trick for the Lady Crusaders. Emma Wyrick and Jordan Poire also scored for Helias.
Both teams will play state semifinal games at Blue Springs South High School next Friday. Helias (19-8-1) will play Kearney (22-3-2) at noon in a Class 2 semifinal. Jefferson City (22-4-1) will face St. Teresa's Academy (21-0) at 4:00 in a Class 3 semifinal.
