      Champions crowned in volleyball and cross country

      Mid-Missouri teams won a total of five state championships on a busy Saturday.

      Hermann volleyball earned its 12th state title with a 25-22, 25-18 win over St. Pius X (Festus) in the Class 2 championship match. The Lady Bearcats finish the season with a 26-14 record.

      Fatima swept the Class 2 cross country championships in Jefferson City. The Lady Comets finished with a team score of 43, easily beating runner-up Springfield Catholic by 59 points. All seven Fatima runners finished in the top 29. Five earned state medals: Riley Caminiti (9th), Madison Day (10th), Anna Massman (13th), Abby Sturtz (15th) and Alexis Peters (16th). Also earning state medals were Blair Oaks' Megan Graessle (21st) and California's Katie Imhoff (24th).

      Fatima also won the Class 2 boys' title, beating Stockton by 57 points. Ross Schanzmeyer and Hunter Hennier led the Comets with 8th and 9th place finishes, respectively. Tom Zeilman also brought home a state medal with a 21st place finish. Other local state medalists include California's Adam Burkett (12th) and Jason Otto of Blair Oaks (17th).

      Russellville won both team titles in Class 1. Senior Miranda Hill won the individual state title to lead the Lady Indians to their third state crown in four years. Teammates Grace Young (3rd) and Taylor Young (24th) also won state medals. Salisbury finished third in the team standings, with Caitlin Hammons finishing 11th. Autumn Baker of Chamois (10th) and Harley Nale of Linn (13th) also brought home state medals.

      Russellville and Linn took the top two spots in the Class 1 boys competition. Russellville's Alex Thompson (4th) and Jamie Porter (23rd) each won state medals. Freshman Chase Jones led Linn with a sixth-place finish. Other state medalists include Vienna's Chandler Harker (3rd), Tolton's Parker Wilkinson (7th) and Stover's Jordan French (8th).

      Rock Bridge took home a second-place trophy in the Class 4 boys competition. Evan Schulte (4th) and Zach Cook (9th) both won state medals. The Lady Bruins just missed a team trophy, finishing fifth in the girls team standings. Sam Farmer (15th) and Marilise Stamps (24th) won state medals.

      No local teams won team trophies in Class 3. In the girls race, Helias runners Kaitlyn Shea (12th) and Kayla Yanksey (24th) and Mexico's Brandow Jami (13th) won state medals. Mexico's Malik Hollman (11th) and Moberly's Colton Downing (18th) earned state medals in the boys race.
