Area wrestlers bring home state titles

COLUMBIA -- Seven area wrestlers won state titles on the final day of the MSHSAA Wrestling Championships.

The Mexico Bulldogs earned three state titles. Kellen Ekern beat Eldon's Trenton Dillon by decision to win the title at 160 pounds. Ekern finishes the season 46-1.

A pair of Bulldogs completed unbeaten seasons on Saturday. Brit Wilson and Terrese Aaron both finished 51-0 after claiming state titles. Wilson won the championship at 170 pounds by pinning Cole Lightfoot of Pleasant Hill. Aaron defeated Marcus Padduck of St. Charles West by decision.

Two Tolton Trailblazers wrapped up perfect seasons by winning championships in Class 1. Juniors Brock Mauller (46-0) and Jarrett Jacques (45-0) won their third straight state titles. Mauller won by technical fall over Kolby Estes of Warsaw at 145 pounds. Jacques defeated Seneca's Trey Smith by decision to claim the 152-pound championship.

Centralia also won a pair of titles in Class 1. Jackson Evans (51-4) won by decision at 170 pounds, while Sam Hasekamp (56-1) won by fall over Gunner Martin of Polo at 220 pounds.

Mexico was the only local school to win a team trophy. The Bulldogs finished second in Class 2 with 132 points. Oak Grove won the title with 142 points.
