Sam wins SEC Player of the Year honor

Missouri's Michael Sam was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press on Monday. He was also a unanimous first-team all-SEC selection.

Sam leads the SEC with 10.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss. He is just the second Tiger to win conference defensive player of the year honors. Jeff Gaylord won the Big Eight's award in 1981.

Sam is one of seven Tigers selected to the all-SEC team. Defensive end Kony Ealy, cornerback E.J. Gaines and offensive lineman Justin Britt were also selected to the first team.

Wideout Dorial Green-Beckham and linebacker Andrew Wilson were named to the all-SEC second team. Defensive end Markus Golden made the honorable mention list.
